Feedoom

Feedoom is a news and content platform where users can find the latest news and content. It gathers developments in technology, sports, culture, the arts and many other areas in one place. I, Berke Özyaşar, built the platform with PHP and MySQL as a personal project.

The idea

When reading the news, we often have to visit many sites to find content that matches our interests. Feedoom aimed to sort content into categories so readers can quickly reach only the topics they care about, and to let them discuss the news rather than just read it.

What keeps readers on a news platform is not just the content but how easy it is to reach. So I tried to keep it simple to move between categories, surface the latest content and jump from a story you have read to related content.

Technical approach

I built the platform with PHP on the server side and MySQL for the data layer. On a content-heavy site, the priority is fast page loads and pages that search engines can crawl properly; comments and community features bring additional needs such as user accounts and moderation. I also use my content management experience on corporate websites; for example, the content of the EKA Gümrükleme site is updated from its admin panel.
