IOOS
Live competition platform
A real-time competition platform built on completing tasks in live sessions, with seasonal contests and prize pools. A past project.

IOOS was designed as a competition platform where users could join seasonal contests and challenges with prize pools. During live sessions, participants advanced by completing different tasks and could follow system events in real time. The concept was simple: the last ones standing win the prize pool. I, Berke Özyaşar, built this platform as a personal project. The IOOS site is no longer live; this page describes the project as past work.
The idea
Live competition formats create a tension that keeps viewers glued to the screen. IOOS set out to bring this format online and build a season-based competition platform anyone could join. Participants advanced by completing tasks in live sessions, and those who lasted to the end won the prize pool.
Features
- Seasonal contests and prize pools
- Different types of tasks completed during live sessions
- Real-time tracking of system events
- A competition format where the last ones standing win the prize pool
In this format, session timing mattered as much as the platform itself: participants had to be online at the same time, tasks had to open for everyone at the same moment and results had to be announced to everyone at once.
Technical approach
I built the front end with React and the back end with Node.js. Real-time events were at the heart of the project: in a live session, participants' progress and system events had to reach all users without delay and consistently. In a setup like this, the most robust approach is for the server to be the single source of truth while clients listen for events and display the state; when prizes are involved, determining results on the server side becomes even more important.
My other personal platform projects are Feely and Feedoom. If you have a real-time product idea, take a look at the SaaS product development page.
