TCT Warehouse App
Barcode warehouse and cargo tracking
An Android app for TCT Lojistik with camera-based barcode and OCR scanning, Zebra label printing and warehouse inbound/outbound tracking.
TCT Lojistik is an Istanbul-based international freight company. I, Berke Özyaşar, developed a mobile app for TCT Lojistik's warehouse team as a client project: an Android app that records cargo coming into and going out of the warehouse by barcode and prints labels right on the floor. As an internal company tool, the app is not available in app stores.
The problem
When parcels and cargo in a warehouse are tracked on paper or with disconnected devices, scanning, labeling and entering data into the system remain separate steps, and errors and delays creep in between them. The goal was to combine those three steps on a single phone and have the data written directly into the company's existing system.
What I built
- Camera barcode scanning: scanning with the phone camera, no separate handheld terminal needed
- OCR: recognizing the text on labels from the camera
- Warehouse inbound: goods loading, vehicle plate selection, parcel list and saved packages
- Warehouse outbound: barcode scanning for dispatch, load list and outbound summary
- Cargo lookup and task details
- Label generation: creating barcode labels with a print preview
- Zebra printer integration: discovering printers on the network and printing directly over a TCP socket
Technical approach
The app is written with React Native 0.81. On the camera side, it uses react-native-vision-camera and an OCR plugin. Labels are converted to ZPL and sent directly to Zebra printers. The app talks to the company's existing ASP.NET Core API and SQL Server database using JWT-based authentication; in other words, instead of building a new backend, I connected to the system already in place.
I gathered what I learned from barcode warehouse apps in my post on building a barcode warehouse app. For a similar need, take a look at barcode warehouse systems. I also used the camera and OCR side in Scano QR, a personal app. TCT Lojistik's corporate website: tcttr.com.
